Before you hunker down for multiplayer stabbing at Comic-Con, here’s some advice to help you not get stabbed a lot.
Early on in Assassin’s Creed 2, you run across a room full of, er, “Animii” (shortly before his departure, former Ubisoft creative director Patrice Desilets confirmed that this is the proper plural form of “Animus”), and because at that point you’re simply running away, there’s little-to-no explanation as to what this room full of Animii is for. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood finally answers that question: said room is a gigantic training room for Templars to learn how to be Assassins.
If you’re curious about the single-player and the lore stuff that happens in this follow-up to AC2, then check out the video below for a quick tour of stuff like improved villas and having a fully rendered Rome as your open-world playground. If you’re curious about what it will be like to play a multiplayer version of Assassin’s Creed, you actually have a chance to do just that — provided that you hit up San Diego Comic Con next week. With only two days to go before the 2010 World Cup kicks off in South Africa, FIFA has formally announced FIFA 11.
This year EA is focusing on player authenticity, beginning with a new feature called “Personality+.” The new feature will serve to further differentiate the players on the field, enabling them to showcase their unique abilities.
“Personality+ is the evolution of individual distinctiveness that sees a footballer?s abilities on the pitch mirrored authentically in our game, creating individual personalities in FIFA 11,” said executive producer Kaz Makita. “We have reached a level of sophistication within our game engine where footballers in our game will behave and perform as true individuals.”
So thanks to a network of some 1700 scouts, editors and reviewers, players like Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta will be able to “utilize tighter turns and close control to dribble through defenses.” Continue reading »

One of the early details on Call of Duty: Black Ops was that it would feature four-player co-op, but if you thought that’d mean playing through the main campaign with three of your friends, you can give up that dream right now. Treyarch has confirmed that the co-op in Black Ops will be entirely separate from the single-player story campaign, and will instead be in “unique” modes built specifically for multiple players.
“Single-player is the epic, cinematic, seat-of-your-pants thrill ride that you star in,” said Treyarch head Mark Lamia to MTV Multiplayer, breaking down the main modes of Black Ops. “Then there’s multiplayer, when you want to play competitive with your friends and really chisel and hone your skills and do that addictive experience. And then co-op is for when you want to have a blast with your friends, just sitting on the couch and having an awesome co-op experience.
“We’re crafting unique co-op modes around that experience, but it is different than what people think,” Lamia continued. He wouldn’t give much detail about Black Op’s co-op modes, but he confirmed they would be different than the Spec Ops mode in Modern Warfare 2. He also wouldn’t confirm whether there will be a return of the Zombies co-op mode from Treyarch’s last Call of Duty game, World at War. Continue reading »
